The Lord of Psalm 23

Psalm 23 is probably one of the most well known passages of the Bible, often still being quoted or referred to in funerals of both Christians and non-Christians. I personally have a tricky history with Psalm 23, it has been a joy and a challenge to read it with different people and in different settings over the years. However, when I saw this book, I knew that I needed to read it and I am so glad that I did! In fact, I’m so glad that I read it that I would encourage you to read it too.

In this book David Gibson, a minister in Aberdeen, walks you through this glorious Psalm and helps you see how it talks about Jesus our shepherd, companion and host.

I have studied Psalm 23 a number of times, preached it a handful of times in different settings and I am always learning more and more, this book opened my eyes more to how amazing Psalm 23 is. The book is in 3 parts; 1) the sheep and the shepherd, 2) the traveler and the companion, and 3) the guest and the host. In each section David takes you into the depths of this Psalm and helps you see the immense comfort, peace and encouragement that you can find in the glorious poetry.

This is not a commentary, although it will help you if you’re ever preaching on Psalm 23, instead this book is an invitation to bask in the richness of Jesus and see how glorious He is!

As you journey through this book David brings out connections to other Bible passages that you may not have noticed before (the connection between Psalm 23 and the Exodus story was new to me!), it will fill your mind with truth that you can build your life and on it will fuel your devotion to Jesus as you’re brought closer to Him.

I highly recommend this book!

In addition to being wonderfully written, it also has a great cover which is just the icing on the cake! Buy your copy here and enjoy diving into the rich depths of the beauty of Jesus in Psalm 23.
