Stories have a way of catching your attention, drawing you in and helping you explore another world. Not only that but stories have the ability to shape the way you think, the way you understand and see the world around you. Stories are a powerful way to share the gospel, but also, as this book does, to help you understand the gospel better.
If you’ve been around church for a while you’ll know that Christians always talk about the gospel. The gospel, the good news of Jesus, God’s story of salvation – whatever phrase we use – it is about the same thing:the story of how God is saving for himself a people. We read about this story in the Bible and it is in the whole of the Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, the gospel runs throughout.
In this book Andrew Wilson helps us understand this story in a deeper way by drawing our attention to 57 short narratives from the Bible. Wilson helps us see how the whole Bible points to Jesus and a story that would put most Hollywood blockbusters to shame. The Bible is a story of love, of different kingdoms, of battles and victories, of the church, a glorious future and much more.
In Andrew Wilson’s usual style this book is incredibly deep whilst being really readable. The short chapters invite you to want to read more and he draws you in with his whimsical writing style and his passion for the Bible and for Jesus.
One of the things that I really like about this book is how Wilson helps us see that the Old Testament points forward to Jesus and isn’t something to be afraid of. This book is a short exploration of the whole Bible, it would be a great book for a new Christian or those who are wanting a different way of thinking about the greatest story of all time – the gospel.
