As well as reading a lot of books, I also read a ton of articles every week. Here are some of the articles that I’ve read recently and have found interesting, helpful, challenging and encouraging. I hope that they will be the same for you, my dear readers.
An interesting article by Tripp on workaholics and the church. I’m not convinced that everyone working hard has an identity issue, but he raises some good points and has good reflection questions to ponder.
This is a helpful article shedding some light on the life of a pastor’s wife. Scroggins gives practical tips for how women with more experience can mentor younger women and lifts your eyes to see the awesome God who has called an equipped His children.
Our main focus as Christians should be to glorify God in all things, that includes our presence on social media and our interactions on social issues. Do our lives match our words?
“Where others would respond to our shame with indignation, Jesus responds with love, forgiveness, and grace. Many are searching for a recovered or even redeemed identity. The culture will not give it to them. But Jesus can. In our temporal and cultural snobbery, we would do well to learn from the Eastern itinerant preacher from Nazareth.”
Our preaching should be the same to a room of 10 and over 100. Tim Counts has written a really helpful article for preachers, especially during this time when you’re maybe still preaching to an empty room and a camera.
“We don’t want to remain spiritual children, perpetually stuck in infancy. We don’t want to be weak, vulnerable, and immature. Nor do we want to be ignorant about God’s truth, because we want to fully glorify Him for everything He has done.” 3 helpful thoughts on the pattern of biblical sanctification.
A helpful article by Nay Dawson on the importance of encouraging and equipping female evangelists.
This discussion has been going on in the USA for a wee while now, it’s starting to kick off here in the UK too. Here’s a helpful and challenging article by Brett McCracken.
If you want to know what it’s like to be a pastor and some of the difficulties mixed in with the joys, read this article. Jared Wilson is a really good writer, you should read as much of his stuff as you can.
This is a helpful article by Jonathan Leeman about his own personal rules when using social media. I would encourage every pastor, and every Christian, to read this and consider how they use social media.
