Stories are powerful. When you hear someone’s story you get much more than what they think or believe. A story is an invitation into the heart and emotions of a person to rejoice and weep with them. Here’s a story that I read yesterday.
There Came a Day tells the story of Patricia Cardy whose daughter was kidnapped and murdered at the early age of 9. This book is an open and honest account of Pat’s thoughts and her life.
Patricia gives accounts of her thoughts, her joys, her fears, her tears and her pain. As I read the book I was tearing up at the pain caused by the evil hands of one man. But I was also amazed at how the Lord strengthened and sustained (and continues to sustain) Pat and her family.
This book is a testimony to the Lord’s goodness to the broken-hearted. The story of Jennifer’s death is horrific, but this book is encouraging. It’s encouraging because you get to journey with the family through their pain and see how the Lord was and is at work in their lives.
It’s strange to recommend a book that has so much tragedy and pain in it, but I highly recommend you get this book. I started it and could not put it down. It only took about 3 hours to read.
It’s important to note that this book does talk about the crimes committed by a killer and therefore some of its contents may be upsetting to you. I don’t think that this should stop you reading the book, but it’s wise to know it in advance.
