Have you noticed an increase in books about the credibility of the Bible? An increase in books about the ‘real meaning’ of the Bible? An increase in books and authors that try to change or reinterpret the hard truths of God’s Word? I have and it worries me.

The path that’s hard but beautiful
How dare God ask that of me? Who is He is expect me to follow that outdated command? How on Earth can I live the life that the Bible tells me to? If you’re like me you’ve definitely heard these questions and many more. Maybe you have even thought them yourself in the past orContinue reading “The path that’s hard but beautiful”
Listen to old stories…
One of the things that struck me recently is that I rarely read testimonies and biographies. This is largely down to the fact that the books I’m sent to review are mostly ‘Christian life’ books. Also, I just enjoy learning new things and wrestling with theological concepts. But I often forget (and I know thatContinue reading “Listen to old stories…”
Welcome and care for the new guy…
It’s been nearly two years since Sabine and I moved church. We moved because I was given a job as Assistant Pastor in a different church in Edinburgh. Even though we weren’t moving city, we were still nervous about how we would manage changing church.

Is ‘progressive’ a positive thing in the church?
Have you ever heard of a church or a Christian describe themselves as being progressive? On the surface this might sound great, I mean who doesn’t want to be constantly changing and growing right? But is that what people mean?
2 things missing in many churches…
I wonder what the first two things were that popped into your head. Was it the lack of young people and lively music? Was it the lack of money and structure? Was it the lack of the right Bible translation and doctrine classes? Spoiler alert… I don’t think that it’s any of those things!
Feasting or snacking?
Over the last few days I have been writing a sermon on Romans 5:1-11, which means that I have spent the last while getting my head into the book of Romans and specifically trying to understand Romans 5-8. Romans is a theological ocean that will fill your head with information about God and humanity, thatContinue reading “Feasting or snacking?”
