Saturday Snippets (August 28)

As well as reading a lot of books, I also read a ton of articles every week. Here are some of the articles that I’ve read recently and have found interesting, helpful, challenging and encouraging. I hope that they will be the same for you, my dear readers…

I Kissed Christianity Goodbye

This is a very interesting podcast that discusses many things from purity culture to the local church and Christian behaviour. Well worth a listen.

On Josh Harris, Homeschooling, and Spiritual Formulas

“When I heard about the ups and downs of Josh Harris’ very public ministry, I would often pray for him and his family. It was like I was watching a friend walking around with a spiritual bullseye on his back.”

‘My church didn’t know what to do with me’ – Libby’s transgender story

Listen to Libby’s story and the things that she has learned along the way.

Why I Need My Single Friends

“The sad fact is that our treatment of single friends in this way (not expecting much from them, thinking that they just need to be looked after) becomes a self-fulfilling prophecy! Single friends may feel that they don’t have much to give, that they can’t be a support to married friends and families because this is the general assumption.”

Why ‘deconstruction’ doesn’t work

“I don’t think that the term deconstruction works because people seem to demolish instead. They focus on their pain and horrible experiences, instead of focusing on truth, which can lead to bitterness instead of learning. Also, this can lead to people demolishing their faith and becoming ‘evangelists’ of ‘leaving the faith’.”

Rejection That Cuts Deep

It’s horrifically hard to lose a son. I’m very thankful for Kath’’s response.

The Gifts of This Age Point Us to the Age Still to Come

“Jesus simply means that we will be glorified in such a way that we will be along the order of angels – enjoying the paradise of God under a new order.”
