Sunny Side Up

Over the years I have read many books, some good and some bad, some written specifically for new Christians and some for the seasoned saint. But there are some books that every person should read because they are so challenging, Sunny Side Up is one of them!

Sunny Side Up is about the conversation between Jesus and Peter in John 21.Continue reading “Sunny Side Up”

Is silence really that bad?

What does that mean? How do you reconcile this perspective with that statement? Do you know about this subject?

These are all questions that I have been asked on numerous occasions. People want answers to their questions, and they want them now!
But sadly all too often I find myself speaking before I’ve properly thought through something. My tongue is going 30mph before my brain is even in the right gear.

That’s where silence comes in, is silence really that bad?Continue reading “Is silence really that bad?”

Easter Readings…

A few weeks ago I was walking around my local supermarket and to my absolute shock, I saw Easter eggs… in January :O

As our world gets busier and busier, sadly, the ‘liturgical calendar’ can almost be thrown out of the window. People still understand Christmas but Easter seems to be another story. Yes, shops are filled with chocolate eggs and bunnies, children are excited to paint eggs and go on the annual hunt, but does it stop there?Continue reading “Easter Readings…”

5 reasons to share your story…

Have you ever been so engrossed in a story that you don’t want to miss a word the person says?

When we have these kind of experiences with stories it makes me think, why don’t Christians tell their testimonies that way?

What is a testimony?

It is an explanation of what God has done and Continue reading “5 reasons to share your story…”

Finding more

Stories are wonderful things and people love to hear them. Whether it’s a little child going to bed, or whether it’s that book you have been devouring, or whether it’s just that coffee catching up with a friend. The majority of the world love a good story.

That’s one of the reasons why I always encourage people to think about their own story, their own testimony and to tell it to people. People won’t be willing to listen toContinue reading “Finding more”

Seeking the things above…

I wonder if you’re like me and when you hear the word discipline your mind jumps back to sitting in the head master’s office at school. I wasn’t necessarily a naughty child but there was the odd time, or few, when I needed to be taught how to behave, that involved discipline.

But is all discipline the same? Continue reading “Seeking the things above…”

Gay Girl, Good God

One of the biggest issues that currently divides the Church is how we respond to sexuality and the LGBT community. There are those who affirm the LGBT community along with their practices, and there are those who do not.

The rhetoric surrounding this issues is one of polar extremes, people seem to either love or hate, affirm or condemn. This is fuelled by people saying that those who are not affirming of this community are bigots, but it’s also fuelled by preachers standing and proclaiming nothing but hellfire and judgement.

One of the misconceptions Continue reading “Gay Girl, Good God”

Do I really need church?

Have you noticed how the world has become more and more focused on the individual? The ‘dog eat dog’ nature of the workplace has crept into every area of society, meaning that community is on the plummet and individualism is on the rise.
Therefore, the church is a funny place because there isn’t, or shouldn’t be, any individualism.

Sadly though I’ve known many people ask the question ‘do I really need the church, can’t I just live out my Christian walk by myself?’

There are a number of issues with this question, here are a few that spring to mind;Continue reading “Do I really need church?”

Unstuck

Have you ever been stuck in a rut?  Have you had times when you’ve felt alone and overwhelmed, unable to see any light at the end of the struggle, or just stuck in the continuous cycle of that sin that you can’t shake?

If you’re anything like me, which I’m sure you are in this sense, then you’ve definitely been there!

One of the things that I find with almost every Christian is that they want to change. As we grow in our faith and knowledge of God we are confronted with our own sinfulness and our failings as we, an unholy people, try to live holy lives for God’s glory. But it isn’t easy, is it? A problem with Christianity today…

Have you ever spent any amount of time with a 4-5 year old? I remember a few years back spending a good chunk of time with a wonderful family whose son was 5 at the time. One of the things that you would hear approximately every 10 seconds was “why daddy?” It was quite cute because the wee fella was from Northern Ireland so you can imagine the accent that goes with it. He was in the middle of the phase that most children go through of wanting to understand things and so he constantly asked questions.

But fast forward a few years and children, generally speaking, stop asking why.Continue reading “A problem with Christianity today…”
